Pearl Millet

Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) has made significant contributions in the development of improved cultivars and their relevant production, protection and processing technologies in fourteen mandated crops, covering cereals, coarse millets, pulses, oilseeds, fodder, fibre  and horticultural crops. These crop varieties have been widely adopted in their recommended areas / agro-climatic zones.

 

Pusa Composite 383

 

Locations: Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Delhi (Zone A)

Performance Results:

  • Suitable for rained and irrigated conditions
  • Average seed yield is 20-24 q/ha.
  • Farmers can use their own produce as seed with a minimum training.
  • It is a dual purpose variety as in addition to grains its stalk is good for fodder.

Cost:

  • Rs. 65/ Kg.
  • High productivity/ area under the specified agro- ecological situation in the designated zone.
  • Resistant to downy mildew and tolerant to drought.

Pusa Composite 443

Locations: Drier parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana having less than 400 mm rainfall. This composite variety is early in maturity (76 days)

 Performance Results:

  • Highly drought tolerant variety
  • Average grain yield is 18-20 q/ha.

Cost:

  • Rs. 65/ Kg.
  • High productivity/ area under the specified agro-ecological situation in the designated zone (A1).
  • Resistant to downy mildew disease.   

Pusa Composite 612

  

Locations: Zone B (Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh). It is a dual purpose variety which can be used both for fodder and grain. It matures in 80-85 days. Resistant to downy mildew both under field as well as artificial conditions

 Performance Results:

  • Suitable for rained and irrigated conditions
  • Average seed yield is 20-25 q/ ha
  • It fits in normal and late sown conditions.

  • Rs. 65/ Kg.
  • High productivity/ area under the specified agro-ecological situation in the designated zone
  • Resistant to downy mildew disease
  • Tolerant to lodging and shattering.
